STUDIOS
The studios have facilities for screenprint, intaglio, relief and digital printing along with a further studio for the making of sculpture. Three master printers, Bernard Pratt, Martin Saull and Peter Notton, each specialise in a particular area with a shared expertise across the various mediums. Working in close collaboration with a master printer, artists are given time to fully explore and experiment with the various processes available.
PLATEMAKING AND ORIGINATION

Etching, platemaking and all positive and stencil making processes remain in-house for efficient development and experimentation. Positives can be hand-drawn or produced photographically – or generated digitally from scanned origination.

SCREENPRINT

The Kippax table has a bed dimension of
60” x 40” (153cm x 102cm). The studio employs a fully integrated water-based ink system for cleaner, safer printing.

INTAGLIO AND RELIEF

Presses.

Rochat Press 26” x 48” (66cm x 122cm).
Rochat Press 32” x 65” (81cm x 165cm).
Gettler and Hunziker Press 23” x 48”
(58cm x 122cm).

The recent development of the photo polymer intaglio plate process enables production of full tonal gravure plates which can be generated from hand drawn or digitally produced positives. This process can also be used to create relief and emboss plates.

DIGITAL

High-performance Apple Powermacs and creative design suites allow artists to explore and integrate digital media into the printmaking process. In-house scanning and a large format inkjet printer (Epson Stylus Pro 9800) enables output on a variety of archival papers and canvas up to a print width of 44" (112cm).

Full tone positives can also be produced by printing images and graphics directly onto transparent film for use in screenprinting, photo - etching and the photo polymer intaglio plate process.

FINE ART REPRODUCTIONS

The studio offers colour matched reproductions of original artwork and also large-format photographic printing onto a variety of photographic papers or canvas.

SCULPTURE STUDIO

The sculpture studio is situated a short distance from the printmaking studios and offers a full range of equipment for wood and stone carving.
