The contemporary changing face of London is recorded in this collection of digital works under the title

“The Falling of the Monumental”, portraying a city under tension since the invasion of Iraq in May 2003.

This work was preceded by a research study of Whistler’s Thames series of the 1870’s. Whistler’s concern

at the time was the industrial changes enveloping the city’s embankments. Now London is on constant

alert and exists in an environment of potential threat. In this collection Richard Davies juxtaposes

established icons of power placed within a hidden fragility and set against other collapsing systems.
