Hugo Wilson

Pratt Contemporary is pleased to be showing a new series of etchings by Hugo Wilson. Five etchings with aquatint on Japanese paper explore the genetic rules that were formulated by the evolutuionary biologist, J.B.S Haldane, which states:

When in the offspring of two different animal races, one sex is absent, rare, or sterile, that sex is the heterozygous (heterogametic) sex.
Hugo has become gripped with the notion that the ‘creator’, or whatever controls these things, allows the cross-breeding to go so far, yet the product will never be able to have children; there can only be the one singular individual animal.

Beefalo, Zeedonk, Liger, Habit and Cama are Wilson’s realisation of genetic anomolies in repsonse to Haldane’s rule.
